Alternate vs The Mimic (Mandela Catalogue vs Vita Carnis)
"Risk and luck are doppelgangers." — Morgan Housel
The Alternates the unforeseen threat of Mandela catalogue
The Mimic the skinless hunter of Vita Carnis
Before we begin
Obviously we will be focussing on the original Mandela catalogue and Vita Carnis videos, but we should clarify, this will be an average type 3 alternate vs adult mimic for the iconic flair and their common appearance then we will talk about Tulpa vs Elder mimic due to their primes, Tulpa vs elder mimic will play a bigger part in our overall verdict due to it being their prime. And it should go without saying Gabriel is off the table.
warning that this blog will contain imagery and horror that may be uncomfortable to some viewers, including the death of children and self harm

Background
Alternate
God had been overthrown, the Archangel Gabriel had revealed to be a traitor to the lord (he’s even implied to be Lucifer), before he set out to take over the world as our true saviour, in order to take over humanity, he sent out the Alternates. A group of 4th dimensional beings with the ability to make 3rd dimensional look-a-like forms, these malicious entities can look like anyone, with… varying levels of success. Their goal? Kill and replace all of humanity. As of now they have conquered 4 counties, and who knows? They’ve probably conquered more.
Mimic
The Vita Carnis species was discovered, a strange collection of creatures with ni-impossible biological features, one of the most horrifying branches of this species is the Mimics. Often found in residential areas around the world. These entities feed entirely off small animals as infants before human organs as adults, before growing into either a human lookalike or an elder mimic if they eat too much, including the skin, we don’t know much about these beings, but they should be avoided at all cost, for a Mimic’s hunt will often lead to nothing more than their belly being full with your liver
Experience and intelligence
Alternate
Alternates are extremely smart, these beings rely on mental warfare over physicals, often using manipulation and MAD to lure out or force people to kill themselves, they could be possibly thousands of years old, and they even seemingly take pleasure in doing what they do
Mimic
The mimic, despite being an animal, is shockingly smart, they’re very analytical and clever with their hunting, often cornering prey via utilising movement and the environment. They basically spend their entire lives designed for hunting, analysing their prey for the time when they’re most vulnerable, and elder mimics are literally made from a mimic having an over consumption of food, showing a large amount of experience in hunting, referred to as one of the most efficient hunters in the world.
Powers and abilities
Alternate
Alternate physiology
Alternates main biology ability is their power to shape shift, allowing them to look like humans with… varying results
Alternates can come in various types, as shown above from this lovely reddit post, it basically goes:
Perfect replicas of humans, with no features that would tip them off as to being an alternate.
Slightly more flawed alternates that look less human.
The first type we’re using, these ones a very imperfect, often containing exaggerated body parts like long faces, fingers, arm, etc etc, some of these guys can even live without a head, and even stand outside a door for days
The other one, basically Alternates manifested from a child’s imagination, which they need to be given form, generally coming out of mirrors or tv.
M.A.D
Pretty much the low tier god ability of the verse, standing for
Metaphysical
Awerness
Disorder
It is the transference of information not desired to be known, seemingly working on those with strong religious and philosophical beliefs, due to the religious theming of the series, what it seems to be the intention is that it shatters the world view of the affected, and thus it works better on people who have a strong passion of viewing the world, what with religious and philosophical views being extremely passionate, so having their world view shattered causes them to be infected, which leads to 97%... offing themselves.
Fear manipulation (debatable, see before the verdict)
Alternates can seemingly manipulate fear, making the police limit alternate encounters, via lying to people reporting alternate attacks while leaving them to die, and an investigator feel a sense of dread.
Technology manipulation (debatable, see before the verdict)
Alternates can seemingly manipulate VHS’s, tv’s, and cartoons.
Dream manipulation, (debatable, see before the verdict)
In the description of this vid, a person had a recurring dream, although it's a little questionable if an alternate made this happen
Limited flight
Alternates can seemingly float, and levitate upside down.
Mimic
Vita Carnis physiology
Mimics biology is… odd, giving them exceptionally long limbs, fingers and multiple teeth. As mentioned in the background, they start as juveniles hunting small prey, working their way up to bigger and bigger animals, before only eating humans growing to 7 feet tall as an adult, leading to their final stage, being either a human lookalike if they have a consistent supply of food, and an elder mimic if they have an overconsumption of food, causing them to grow 10 feet tall, causing their skn to turn black, become more flexible, and causing it to thicken, making them tougher and thus harder to kill.
Body contortion
Mimics can contort their bodies into small spaces like closest doors, beds etc, and they can even expand their bodies for intimidation.
Sound manipulation
Mimics can well… mimic, sounds and even some human language to lure pray
Stealth
Mimics are rather stealthy when they want to be, making very little noise, and their red and dark skin makes them tough to see in the dark
Feats
Alternate
Overall
Assisted Gabriel in conquering 4 counties
Has tricked countless people
They’re bloody scary dude
Power and durability
A tulpa could silently kill Ruth Weaver and Martin Thatcher (See scaling)
A regular alternate could tank mid ranged gun fire
A tulpa could tank point blank gunfire
Speed
Flew towards Thratcher… kinda fast
Are relative to… normal people
That’s it lmfao
Scaling
Humans
I mean… do I need to justify why they scale to the victims of the series?
Thratcher vaugely smashed through a window (4.65 Kilojoules)
That's it… dam you analog horror
Mimic
Overall
Have spread across the entire world
One of the most successful Predators on the planet
They’re bloody scary dude
Power and durability
Can overpower and kill humans , ripping out their organs in both adult and elder (2.347 kilojoules)
Seemingly crunches bones when eating
Elder Mimics are pretty big huh? (at minimum 3.35622 kilojoules)
Elder Mimic could bust through a reinforced wooden door (19.391 kilojoules per hit, possibly higher)
Down scales from Elder mimic via size (23.891 kilojoules) (See Before the Verdict)
An Elder mimic could tear off Farren’s arm (48.757 kilojoules) (See Before the Verdict)
Reportedly, melee strikes and gunfire Aren’t very effective against them (See Before the Verdict)
Speed
Consistently move fast enough to attack humans before they can react, and keep up with them in a chase
Reportedly go for the neck and throat to kill their prey as fast as possible
Regular mimics can run at 30-35 km/h
Elder mimics can run at 40+ km/h
Scaling
Other Vita Carnis Species
The mimic shouldn’t scale to the monoliths or singularities what with the mono’s size and the singularities vaporising a mimic as an after though, but since it’s one of the most efficient hunters and its near unstoppable nature, everyone else should be fine for scaling stats wise
Harvesters branches can over power and cause bleeding to big animals like deer
A Harvester dragged a child and their mother down (major loud sound and gruesome trigger warning)
Harvesters can bring down animals like deer and wolfs under the soil (640.001 kg and 6.378 kilojoules)
The Host of influence can gut humans, tearing out their organs (2.347 kilojoules)
Weaknesses
Alternates
Alternates have a massive ego, sometimes even letting themselves be it for lols
They can reportedly be neutralised, and seemingly not come back (See before the verdict)
M.A.D can reportedly be avoided via not having a strong belief in religion or philosophical ideas, and it absolutely can be survived, 97% kill rate is impressive, but not perfect, and it ties into the themes of religion and world views being shattered
Their shapeshifting isn’t always perfect, they can often have really poor, with obvious in human features
Mimic
Mimics are still animals, they can be outsmarted and will not chase their prey if they have a clear escape route
While elder mimics can endure gunfire, it still hurts like hell
Elder mimics can be quite playful with their food
their head and legs are weak spots for gunfire and can immobilise them temporarily

Before the Verdict
Could an alternate shapeshift into a mimic?
A popular argument in Mandela Catalog power scaling is assuming that the alternates could just become their opponent, but there are flaws with this argument, the likelihood of why the alternates haven’t passed 4 counties is due to the government preventing any influence of there’s from spreading, which would explain the police not coming to save anyone from alternates, or destroying TV’s to prevent alternates manifesting there (more elaboration in this amazing blog) so with that considered, you’d think they would have stretched their influence more if they could turn into an animal or something like the mimic.
They have never actually turned into anything not human like, people argue they can turn into a cat but that was just a tv mimicking a cat noise, hell that wasn’t even an alternate, that was the intruder, who isn’t an alternate.
Furthermore, there was that sheep in volume 5, but that was more so just a representation of a symbolic story on what happened to Adam Murray (Adam’s alternate being the sheep), none of that actually happened.
There’s simply no evidence an alternate could copy a mimic’s physiology, especially since it's a species unlike anything the alternate has seen, and the alternates haven’t even perfected humans yet after gabriel knows how many years
You could argue a tulpa could, but that relies on a child giving them a form, and even then the tulpa we saw way just… another human like entity lmfao
TLDR: alternates have never shown the ability to warp into something like the mimic, and they would have likely surpassed 4 counties if they could
4D ALTERNATES WHAT THE HELL
So, alternates are 4th dimensional, confirmed by Alex himself, but how are they able to exist in the 3rd dimension? Well they’ve been stated to exist on different spectrums, implying that they just send down 3d avatars to actually interact with us (once again more elaboration in this blog)
Since their 4D nature has never affected us, this will not change anything for stats
Are alternates truly unkillable?
A common thing also said is that alternates can’t die… even though they’re literally stated to be capable of being executed and neutralised, while you could argue the broadcast is lying like they do with the calls from people with alternate invaders, that doesn’t mean everything they say isn’t true, the info on M.A.D is never contradicted and only proven when it’s not used on those with non religious beliefs in the entire series, or how you can identify an alternate
Not only that but alternates can have their bodies warped, or even pushed back and mildly damaged by point blank gunfire, so there isn’t really enough of a reason to assume that they’re unkillable.
The best you can argue for a sort of immortality for the alternates is them re-manifesting avatars, but them doing that is debatable for all types:
Type 1-3: They can be neutralised and killed as said earlier, and they never are shown to instantly come back
Type 4: They need to be given form from a child's imagination, there’s no evidence that they can actually come back without needing a new form to be conceived.
They’re stated to exist on different spectrums, but dying doesn’t mean you stop existing, it just means your existence is in a different state, so it’s unlikely they could send another avatar in the first place
TLDR: There's only evidence for high damage resilience, not immortality
Various other weird alternate abilities discussion
Fear manipulation:
Pretty much has only ever shown to be people being afraid of the alternates, the first example we gave was merely the government trying to prevent their spreading, and the second one was probably just the investigator scared of what could happen to him, and once again it was likely the intruder doing this, who’s very much not an alternate.
Technology manipulation:
Very little evidence an alternate did this, considering the intruders habit of hacking tech and kids shows, this was also likely him.
Dream manipulation:
Easily the one we take the least issue with, but it could just be the dude experiencing a recurring dream, but I wouldn’t completely count this one out.
Can Mimics tank bullets?
For adults, it’s kinda up in the air, they’re stated to but a QNA statement from WOG confirms that this was intentionally misleading, as to keep a mystery on how tough mimics actually are. The members of the singularity cult were even arrested for spreading false information on the mimics and the other members of the Vita Carnis species, however it was in an attempt to cause harm, and I highly doubt they would actually be explaining weak spots of mimics in order to cause harm, so all in all, bullet scaling should probably be fine for adult mimic’s albeit with some scrutiny…
But then here comes elder mimics with objective bullet scaling, when in terminal rally they endured gun fire to the head a point blank range, and that was to the head which is likely the weakest point of their body, and since adults downscale from elders, should probably be able to tank one from close-mid range too
TLDR: Absolutely for elders, likely for adults
Mimic’s arm tearing shenanigans
Sooooo, in terminal rally, we see that the elder mimic managed to tear off Farren’s left arm, there’s no doubt it did it, as the arm isn’t visible, however some may question the fact we have no reference as to how he could do this, however… we do, no joke, it’s been confirmed that elder mimics eat human limbs like kebabs, tearing off flesh easily, the only reason bones are left behind is due to the elder mimic not wanting them, there really isn’t any reason to assume they can’t just tear it off with their bare hands, especially since they tend to rip out parts of humans to eat better. Plus since the mimic’s bite and head were enough to tear skin off in an assumed 2 bites (one for each joint, which is what is shown), their arms should probably be capable of doing more, with the average arm being about 2x stronger than a bite, and since they do it casually, this only balances the scaling even more, and since they eat them like kebabs, it’s likely the tear them off to eat them like kebabs too.
Now the question is do the regular mimic’s scale? Both feats are done by the Elder mimic, who is bigger and stronger, however we can downscale this, since an elder mimic’s size and strength seems to be a proportional thing, mimics bodies are stated to get bigger and their skin tougher depending on how much they eat, so that means we can reasonably down scale based on the lore given heights of 10 ft vs 7 ft. And accounting for surface area, an Elder mimic would be about 2x stronger, which makes sense since they seem to kill their prey with similar efficiency, putting the regular mimic lower into those wall level tiers.
TLDR: there is enough evidence to support this scaling, so it should be fine
Verdict
STATS
Type 3 vs Adult
This is pretty easy to figure out, the type 3 alternates have little to nothing for feats, sure they can tank bullets at mid range, but likely so could the mimics too. The best they would scale to is Thratcher breaking a window at 4.65 kilojoules, impressive, more than the mimic’s window smashing feat at 2.438 kilojoules and tearing out organs at 2.347 kilojoules, but mimics can also scale to harvesters pulling down deer at 6.378 kilojoules, and downscaling from elder mimics tearing off limbs, getting them to 23.891 kilojoules, more than 5x the strength.
And for speed, it’s chasing a normal person (19-24 km/h) vs 30-35 km/h, making the mimic 1.45-1.58x faster
Adult Mimics take stats
Tulpa vs Elder
This isn’t much better, Tulpa’s can now likely upscale the 4.65 kilojoules, to an impossible to determine degree, but the elder mimics can smash through doors at 19.391 kilojoules, already about 4x the strength, but tearing off an arm would be about 48.757 kilojoules, over 10x the power, and this was pretty casual, hell the Elder mimic was able to reach a comparable strength of 3.35622 kilojoules on a low end via just STANDING there, while alternates do upscale their scaling, it’s definitely not enough to match a 4-10x difference, especially since the mimic’s feats are definitely casual
Speed is basically the same, Tulpa’s can out fight a police officer, so average-above average human level, and mimic’s are 40 km/h, easily peak human
The Elder Mimic still takes stats
Arsenal and abilities
Type 3 vs Adult
This one’s a bit more unique, the alternate abilities were definitely more useful normally, but in this specific fight, most of them didn’t mean much, lets start with MAD, this was basically useless, MAD works via shattering the world view of a person with a strong world view with things like religion or philosophical through verbal communication, not only is it unlikely that the mimic would even understand what the alternate is saying, but the mimic is just an animal, it has no religious or philosophical ideology’s to exploit, thus making MAD useless.
Even with debatable abilities, most of them like technology manipulation and dream manipulation basically has no effect, and the debatable fear manipulation has never shown to fend if someone mid fight, the most it would likely do would be causing the mimic to hesitate, and besides, it's unlikely the alternates even have this ability to begin with.
The Mimic’s long limbs and contorting body allow them greater range and control in the battle field, and their teeth would allow for extra damage, so overall the mimics abilities, while not as effective normally, would play more of an important role.
And as I mentioned it’s unlikely that the alternates are impossible to kill, and it seems like they need a body to actually manifest to come back, but I will elaborate on how it wouldn’t change much in the conclusion. It’s unlikely the mimic could kill the alternates true form, but that doesn’t mean much when that said true form can’t even interact with the Mimic
Mimic edges out in abilities
Tulpa vs Elder
Basically the exact same, except the elder mimic now has greater range thanks to its greater size, and the Tulpa’s potential ability to create avatars are even worse, due to its need of a form created from a child. Tulpa’s have limited flight, which they have never once used in a combat scenario and we don’t even know how effective it is.
Elder mimic also takes abilities.
Tertiary factors
Type 3 vs Adult
Let's be honest, alternates stomped in terms of intelligence, while mimic’s are smart for an animal, they’re still.. Animals, compared to the alternets, who rely on mental warfare to kill their prey, combining with their 4D mind, and likely thousands of years of deception, they’re easily the more intelligent.
However, in terms of skill, it was a different story, the mimic is way more strategic, and its hunting skills, give it a pretty clear edge, alternates are rarely ever challenged, meaning that while they’re older, they’re far more inexperienced in actually doing anything, combined with the Mimic’s analytical mind, the mimic’s take it.
Overall, Alternates take intelligence, and The Mimics take skill and experience.
Tulpa vs Elder
Tulpa’s don’t really add much to an alternate’s mentality, while Elder Mimics are actively more intelligent, more skilled and more experienced mimics, furthering the gap in skill and experience, while closing the intelligence difference, albeit likely not by enough, elder mimics are still just animals and can be rather playful themselves.
Still, Tulpas take intelligence, and Elder Mimic takes skill and experience.
Conclusion
This fight was kinda tricky, these two are very interpretational on what they can do, but from what I interpret, The Mimic simply has the more reliable methods to actually win, I don’t really think the alternates could come back if they’re killed, but let’s assume they could
Type 3 vs Adult
The Mimic actually has 2 options to win this
Incapacitate, since the alternate has only ever shown to have one avatar at a time, it stands to reason that the mimic could use its analytical mind to determine that it could just rip the alternates limbs off and leave it, there’s absolutely no evidence that an alternate can pull their avatars back and create new ones, thus preventing them from coming back.
Patience, unlike what the tape says, Mimic’s are relentless, one standing outside a door for nearly a month just to kill a dude (that was an elder but there’s no real evidence regular mimics wouldn’t do the same) there’s no doubt the alternate would eventually give up and do something else.
Tulpa vs Elder
This is likely worse for alternates as they need to manifest in TV’s and mirrors, which the Elder Mimic would NO DEBATE catch onto, making it even less reliable, and since this Elder Mimic is even more intelligent and dangerous, my two presented scenarios are even more likely
In both cases, the Mimic simply has the better odds, as all of the alternates win cons rely on generous interpretations, and when placed up against the Mimic’s advantages, it just can’t stack up
Overall
Alternate
Advantages:
+ Smarter
+ True form is impossible for the mimic to kill
+ More quantifiable experience…
+ Mandela catalogue is really good man
+ One of the scariest analog horror entities
Disadvantages:
- Gets out muscled and out sped
- MAD wouldn’t work
- …but way worse quality of experience
- Would likely give up
- Need more actual feats like OMG
The Mimic
Disadvantages:
- Less intelligent
- No way to kill the true form of the alternate
- Is pretty obviously a dude in a costume
Alternates were a tough threat in their own right, but The Mimic’s greater strength, speed, biology and killing nature aloud a victory
The winner is The Mimic
Team Alternate: No one lmao (0) (It was worth the risk)
Team Mimic: SPRITE, TheRandomchannelX (2)
